Our approach
At Louis Poulsen, sustainability is integrated into every part of our work. It shapes how products are designed, sourced, manufactured, used, and cared for across their lifetime. It also guides how we support the people and communities connected to our company.
We focus on three core areas: Design for the Planet, Design for People, and Design for Culture. Each area reflects our commitment to creating long-lasting lighting with respect for materials, craftsmanship and the world around us.
Design for the Planet
Designing for the Planet means making thoughtful choices that reduce environmental impact across our operations. We use our Eco-design Framework to evaluate materials, durability, repairability and end-of-life possibilities from the very first design sketch.
We continue to increase transparency in our supply chain, strengthen ESG screening with our partners, and work to reduce emissions in production and logistics. Circular thinking is gradually being embedded into product development to ensure that future collections become easier to maintain, refurbish and reuse.

Design for People
Design for People expresses our belief that lighting can improve wellbeing and create environments where people can thrive. It also reflects our responsibility towards our employees and the communities we engage with.
We are committed to creating an inclusive workplace built on fairness, safety and development opportunities. Across our markets, we support initiatives that contribute positively to education, local culture and the built environment, ensuring that our presence creates long-term value.

Design for Culture
Design for Culture is about protecting and continuing the design heritage that defines Louis Poulsen. We safeguard the craftsmanship behind our classic designs, invest in specialist skills, and collaborate with museums, researchers and cultural institutions to preserve historic pieces for future generations.
We also support contemporary designers and artistic projects that explore light, materiality and spatial experience, underlining our role as The Original House of Light.

Our Eco-Design Framework
Our Eco-design Framework helps ensure that every new product is developed with clear sustainability considerations. It guides designers and engineers in selecting materials, evaluating impact, and improving longevity and maintenance.
The framework is being rolled out across all product categories and will continue to evolve as we improve our data and design processes.

Carbon Offsetting
Louis Poulsen uses certified carbon credits to balance residual emissions while reducing emissions across the value chain. We support projects that protect biodiversity and natural habitats, and all credits used are certified according to recognised international standards.
This approach ensures that our climate actions contribute to meaningful environmental benefits while we continue our reduction efforts.
Extended Producer Responsibility
In accordance with the EU and UK WEEE regulations, Louis Poulsen ensures access to free end-of-life recycling for lighting products placed on markets by financially supporting national networks of local authority-operated WEEE recycling centres.
In the UK, producers or distributors are required to declare their WEEE registration number: WEE/BH0073UQ
