Poul Henningsen designed hundreds of lamps based on the three-shade-system, which he developed in 1926. This design provided unequaled lighting quality for all types of needs. A year later, Louis Poulsen introduced the PH 3/2 together with Henningsen. Many of Henningsen's lamp designs include a number that refers to the size of each fixture's shades. As a ‘hybrid’ sized luminaire, the PH 3/2 has a top shade that measures approximately 30 cm, which is combined with the proportionally smaller lower shades from the PH 2/2. In 2022, Louis Poulsen continues this line with the introduction of the PH 3/2 Table Limited Edition. The lamp is made of opal glass and brass. The brass top shade, with its white inner reflector, provides a primarily downwardly directed light. The two lower shades in opal glass are glossy on top and sandblasted matte underneath for a softer touch resulting in a more uniform light distribution. The brass is characterized by its fine lines, which follow the round shape of this collector’s item. It is marked with Henningsen’s initials on the socket house. The distinctive brass elements will patinate beautifully over time. Alternatively, the brass can be carefully polished from time to time to maintain its original finish.
